Teaching: Saturday Morning
Inland NW Sufi Camp 2025
You know Murshid Sam said that Sufism is “Two parts Bhakti and one part Jnana”. We all know about bhakti, devotion, that’s what we’ve been sharing. But it’s Jnana, the path of knowledge that we forget. “Vedanta” actually means the end of knowledge. What are we when we leave conventional knowledge behind?
The idea of what we are, like a person, for instance. You know, we can have all kinds of ideas about being a person. But if I ask you, “Are you aware?” and you look to see… I hope every hand in the room would go up. “Yeah, I’m aware.”
You know you’re aware, don’t you? It’s not esoteric. Every human being on the planet would say, “Yeah, I’m aware.” And the birds and the animals would say that if they could speak. It’s all aware.
My presentation this morning could be called Fun Facts About You as Light. Knowing you’re aware is the only thing you can be aware of that isn’t an object… a thought, feeling. a chair, a memory. It’s the only thing you can be aware of. Isn’t that fascinating? It’s absolute knowledge. And how do you know this? How do you know you are aware?
